Canon Summary

Dexter Morgan was adopted at the age of three by a Harry Morgan, a police officer, after finding him in a cargo box inches deep in dried blood. Noticing that this had a lasting effect on Dexter's personality, he decided to teach his son a code that would help him cope with his sociopathy and relentless urge to kill.

Now at the age of 35, Dexter works for the Miami Dade Police Department as a Forensics Specialist alongside his foster sister, Deborah, a police officer like her father. By day he keeps up a friendly persona, complete with his job and his girlfriend. By night, he and his Dark Passenger hunt those who do not deserve to still walk on the streets of Miami.

The Code

Rule one, never get caught. The rest of the rules are there to ensure that Dexter is never caught. He must be precise and careful when both researching potential victims and commiting the actual murder. Not a drop of blood is left behind, other than one drop per victim that Dexter places on a glass slide that he keeps in a rosewood box inside his apartment; his trophy case. The victims must themselves, be killers, though Dexter is known to also take care of arsonists, rapists, or other criminals who have thought that they escaped the law.
